Date:
8th December 2008, 14:00-17:00h

Reiner Hoffmann, European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) ETUC position
"Four out of ten companies are facing major restructuring programmes. Workers are suffering most out of the crisis. Those, most vulnerable workers such as agency workers or those with temporary contracts, are facing huge consequences."
Speakers:
Andrew Watt, European Trade Union Institute (ETUI) : The economic and financial crisis: dealing with the repercussions and the causes
"European policy has to pull the right levers to get us out of this crisis and it has those levers… This is not 1929. We know what to do: expand aggregate demand if the market doesn’t and (pursue) expansionary monetary and fiscal policies."
NEW:
Lothar Kamp, Hans Böckler Stiftung (HBS): Financial innovations and absence of regulation as causes of the financial market crisis
"There has been little regulation of financial innovation, a failure of supervisory authorities and a mismanagement of credit loan markets."
Pierre Habbard, Trade Union Advisory Committee to the OECD (TUAC) : Pension Fund Investments in Private Equity: Implications for the Stewardship of Workers’ Capital
"Private equity funds are excessively lightly regulated if they can be considered regulated at all."
